Today Lake Panasoffkee, still remains an unincorporated area with a
population of approximately 3500, what once used to be only a
recreational area or a week-end retreat for many has today become their
permanent home as they retire and settle in to the area they have always
enjoyed.
Panasoffkee is still home to so much wild life, you never know what
you might see in your yard each morning from squirrel, raccoon, possum
armadillo, deer, turkey, turtle, otters, alligator only to mention a
few along with so many beautiful birds.
Panasoffkee is a true spring-fed lake flowing at the rate of two
million gallons per hour and is today one of florida's best hot spot's for
Largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, warmouth, and catfish. There are several
fish camps along the shores of the lake along with rv camp grounds, the lake
covers an area of 4,460 acres, and connects to the Withlacoochee River
which is well over 157 miles long flowing out to the Gulf of Mexico. Several
fish camps have boat ramps to provide access, a public ramps is available on
the Outlet River west of the lake on CR470 and another is located at
Coleman Landing.
Panasoffkee doesn't have any large shopping malls nor large convenient
stores, but all that is very near-by, if you love living in the country
then you would love to live in Panasoffkee, as there is so much
peacefulness and tranquillity to be offered. now i don't want you to
think that we lack convenient's as we do have a large grocery store, one
major bank (branch), hardware store, several smaller convenient stores,
several resturants, number of churchs, couple of major gas stations
and lets not forget the rv camp grounds and fishcamps, we also have our
own firestation, community library, and community recreational area.
Panasoffkee is very easy to find as it's boarder by InterState-75 on
it's eastern edge of town and State Road 470 on the southern edge, the
city of Ocala, is located to the north 25 miles, the city of Inverness,
is 15 miles to the west, the city of Leesburg is 30 miles to the east
and the city of Bushnell which is our county seat is only 6 miles to
the south, the Florida State Turnpike is within a 10 minutes drive to
access such cities as Orlando, Miami or to visit one of the many
